Hollyhocks were out of style for many years and considered too "old-fashioned." Fortunately with the new trend toward cottage gardens they are back in vogue. In my yard, hollyhocks liberally self-sow, so I get a new batch every year in a variety of colors.

OOH,I want to paint it! Such delicacy in its center. Lovely.
I love hollyhocks. When I was a child my father taught me how to make them into dolls. Turn the flower over so it forms the skirt. Stick a toothpick through the middle and add some buds for bust and head. You can even add another blossom as a parasol. It impresses my granddaughter!
