Chicago Greystone House

Chicago Greystone

This is a lovely example of Chicago architecture. I wouldn't mind living in a house like this, although due to its being a row house it probably doesn't get much light indoors.

Guarding the Garbage

Guarding the Donation Boxes

. . . and donation boxes. This is a local National Guard building. I've always wondered what goes on in there. It generally seems rather vacant. I guess given the normal duties of the guard, this is a good thing. It means no local disasters happening. The architectural detailing is rather grand, I think.

Four Years of Blogging

Shadow top and topless

It has been 4 years of blogging today. The blog seems like an organic form at times, like a limb of myself and where my brain has been. Birds, flowers, nature, at war with trash and urban decay. Books and politics, rants and whingeing, with a lot of photos thrown in. The crafts I've played at, the thoughts I've thunk, the friends I've made along the way. I've gotten blocked and lost interest from time to time but overall I've loved the ride. I wonder if I'll still be doing this four years hence.
I appreciate all the comments and visits. You all keep me going.

Statue of the Republic

Statue of the Republic

Of course I digress from previous projects but this seemed like a good photo to share.
This statue is a small size replica of The Republic by Daniel Chester French and is situated in Jackson Park, Chicago. The statue was built in 1918 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition (which held the original sculpture) and was sculpted by Henry Bacon (thanks to Wikipedia for this information).

For Photo Sunday, Statue.

More Square

Woman in White Tee, Doubled

Inspired by the crowds drawn by our local art fair, I decided to frame the neighbors and neighborhood through my front door. The beveled glass makes for the odd duplications which are, I think, half the fun.

Black umbrella and twin girls in pink

I had fun spying and browsing the fair. I usually pick up a couple of small items of jewelry to lighten up my otherwise drab work attire. Besides I can't really afford the larger art. I saw some prints, ceramics, metal work, leather books, and paintings I liked. I may include some links in a later post. I'm not sure if the artists would allow photographs. I hope to go out again today for some crowd shots at the least. And more squared photos to follow.
