Urban Wildlife

Coyote 2

Why it pays to take your camera everywhere. I was admiring the snow on the tombstones when I saw this guy. I got off three shots from my car and then went to park. By the time I got back the coyote was gone.

I just thought of how sad this is too. Still cool, but sad because this shows how urban sprawl is encrouching on wildlife habitat. You know?

That is an AMAZING photograph!

I admit I'd be tempted to try to photoshop out the chainlink fence, but once you start modifying photographs they lose their integrity.

But still...

...wow.

I agree with JL - wow! I started thinking about whether the coyote knew the person buried there, perhaps it was his owner...the story you could build around this picture...

What a great shot! I love coyotes and seeing one in broad daylight like that is rare indeed!

I disagree with kathe, though, there's nothing particularly sad about this. It's just that coyotes are opportunistic and are working out how to live in harmony with us. They're smart enough to know that we generate a lot of extra food.

That is interesting.-Coyotes have adapted to humans almost too well in some cases.-I saw one laying on the grass in the town hall field one evening.-Great capture! I have no photos of them yet.

Beautiful photo. How lucky you were to get this shot. I agree with Chris: coyotes are able to adapt so well that they will survive. Their natural history (is that what its called?) is fascinating. They adapt their birth rate nearly instantaneously to conditions in their area.

What I notice is that coyotes elsewhere, outside of here in the mountains, seem very small. Not scrawny but small. So I am going to agree with our state wildlife folks who say our coyotes are actually coywolves: huge, brawny, shaggy things whose size is quite intimidating.

(I meant "birth rate", in case I didn't edit it before it was sent to you.)
