Harbor Views

Arctic Loon While in Seattle in August we had a lovely seafood lunch near a working fisherman's harbor. After lunch we strolled the docks a bit and looked at the boats many of which seemed to hail from unpronounceable locations in Alaska. I vastly prefer these working boats to the pretty ornaments you see on Lake Michigan, all loud noise and massive wake. Debra Sue from Quinhagak, Alaska Thor I couldn't figure out the purpose of this vehicle. It looks like it could have landed tanks on D-Day. Any thoughts?

Sarala, I wish you had more photos of the Thor. It certainly is riding high in the water, and does seem to have some sort of gateway or ramp at the bow. But it is far too tall to be a landing craft, although it does have some similarities. Maybe it is a tender for other vessels. Not sure.

There is something so fun about looking at working boats -- I totally agree. One time our boat in Florida broke down and was towed to a working marina to be fixed ...after the trauma of getting there (and the $$ shock) it was really fun to spend a couple of nights in among the working boats.. we really learned so much and in some ways it was way more fun than the kind of marina where we usually would stay.

I love wandering round harbours - I particularly like the little boat in the first photo!
