Vintage Book Covers

Damon Runyon

Are going to be outgoing postcards. Sizing them accurately down to 4x6 turns out to be a little tricky but I think I'm getting the hang of it. My first efforts seemed to crop off some of the edges even though the pre-printing image looked fine. I'm wondering if I ought to try reading the books too.
Damon Runyon is going out to the Missive Maven. Maven definitely has a fun blog about letter writing and related themes. I hope I don't creep her out with Damon--some of the cover faces are a bit sinister if you ask me. Perhaps it is a bit better than sending The Loved One to a complete stranger--does it have a hint of stalker about it?

The Loved One

I'll keep on blog hopping as time permits.

What a great idea. I must have a goldmine upstairs.

I loved "The Loved One." Have you seen the movie? I just watched it again a month or so ago. Never was there a better role for Liberace!

Don't take this as threatening or anything, I know how some people are about firearms.

When I bought the revolver I shoot at my club matches, it was obviously carried in a holster for a looong time. It was very likely a cop's pistol (it's old; 1936 manufacture). I took the wooden grips off to check for internal rust, and discovered someone had used the covers from paperback books to seal the inside of the gun!

The coating on the covers of paperbacks was more or less waterproof, and the owner had cut them to size, and fitted them between the steel frame and wooden grips to 'weatherproof' a gun that was carried in all sorts of weather. I'd never seen anything like it.

I very, very carefully removed the coated pages, checked the internals (perfect) and then put them back. They're still there, part of the machine's history.

Since then, I've learned it was a 'trick' so-called old-timers used to seal the mechanics of their holster guns! Weird, huh?

Take care!

Loved the postcard - I am a big fan of vintage illustration, particularly mid-century. I get much weirder stuff than this, and am a fan of the offbeat anyway - so no worries! Nicely done on the postcard, too, it's good an sturdy.

I doubly appreciate the link back to my blog!

I'll have a postcard back on the way to you one of these days...
