I can't tell the scale of it, but it kinda looks like a bike chain...so not sure :) I love the contrast between the warmth of the rust vs the coolness of the wood. Very nice shot.
I guess I wasn't that clear. I know it is a chain but it is a chain as wide as my leg and it is firmly attached to a very large log. I'm guessing it was used to haul the log either for clearing an area or intending to haul it to a mill but the log "got away."
I'm pretty sure it's a uni-directional drive chain for a motorcycle that someone tried to use as a drag chain, which is why it's rusting in the rain, as it's a drive chain and not designed for pull work.
Whoever used it for the drag purpose is either lucky to be alive or regretting they tried to use it.
